Metal, taught to move like water.

Everything Phiten makes rests on one idea: a metal you can wear all day without noticing — not as jewellery sitting on the skin, but carried inside the fabric, the adhesive or the gel itself. That idea is called Metax. This is what it is, how it is made, and what we will and will not say about it.

Where it started

One stubborn question.

In 1983 Phiten's founder, Yoshihiro Hirata, asked in Kyoto why metal could only ever be worn on top of the skin. A ring, a chain, a bracelet — solid, heavy, and only ever touching one small place.

A solid metal cannot be soaked into a thread. So Phiten spent years on the opposite: breaking metal down to nano scale and dispersing it in water, until it could go anywhere water goes. Into a fibre. Into an adhesive. Into a lotion.

That process is what the patents protect, and it is why a Phiten tape, a Phiten necklace and a Phiten gel are the same idea in three formats.

Illustrative, not to scale. It shows the idea — metal carried through a material rather than plated on top of it.

How it is made

Four steps from metal to something you wear.

1

Disperse

Metal is reduced to nano-scale particles and suspended evenly in water. Not a powder, not a coating — a dispersion.

2

Blend

Metax is a combination of metals rather than one. The blend is chosen for what the product does — titanium and gold, for instance, in the things that sit on skin.

3

Carry

Because it is water-borne, it can be taken up by fabric, worked into tape adhesive or suspended in a gel. It runs through the material; it is not painted on.

4

Wear

A disc at the base of the neck. A strip along a calf. An insole in the shoes you stand in all day. Small, quiet, and on you for the hours that take the most out of you.

Two names you will see

Metax and Aqua Titanium.

Both come from the same Kyoto process. One is the current generation; the other is where it began.

Current generation

Metax

A blend of metals dispersed together, with the mix varied by application. It is what Phiten builds its range on today.

  • Rakuwa necklaces
Where it began

Aqua Titanium

The original, titanium-only dispersion. It lives on in the X30 tape line — X30 is Phiten's name for its high-concentration version, thirty times the standard.

Straight answers

What we can say — and what we won't.

A technology page is where brands usually start overclaiming. This one is written by a physiotherapist, so it stops where the evidence does.

What is true

  • The dispersion process is real, patented and made in Japan.
  • Phiten designs these products to support relaxation and recovery — that is its own wording, and ours.
  • Professional athletes with every alternative available have kept wearing it for four decades.
  • Many people find the area of concern asks for less of their attention over a week of steady use.

What we will not tell you

  • That it treats, cures or prevents anything. It does not.
  • That it replaces a doctor, a physiotherapist, sleep or sensible training.
  • That it will work for you. Only a week of wearing it answers that.

A wellness product, not a medicine. Phiten products are not medical devices and do not diagnose, treat or cure any condition. Phiten®, Metax and Aqua Titanium are trademarks of Phiten Co., Ltd, Japan.

The technology only matters once it is on you. Start with one small thing and give it a week.
